The Knighton Heath Over 60’s Knock Out Competition

Club Hero, John Wright, clinches victory for Over 60’s
The Club is progressing well in The Knighton Heath Over 60’s Knock Out Competition by winning
their second round match against Hayling Golf Club at home on Monday 11th June 2018.
The successful team was

Michael Hodgson, Ken Heap, Graham Fisher
Martin Slade, Steve Johnstone, Phil Cave
Ray Claridge, Stewart Green, Richard Puxley and
John Wright

Hayling turned up with a very strong side of low handicap players so they were conceding shots in all
matches. It was a real battle with us having some winners and some losers against really tough
opponents, but the hero of the day was club stalwart John Wright. His was the last match in and a
win was needed to ensure victory for the home side. He was all square with one hole to play and
managed to hold his nerve to win the 18th hole to claim victory from the jaws of defeat.
The weather was beautiful and the course was in great condition. Despite their loss on the day the
Hayling players really enjoyed the day with us and were very complimentary about the course and
the clubhouse facilities.
Our next opponents are Purbeck Golf Club - Away, on 19th July.

Our over sixties team progressed very well in this prestigious competition, managing to reach the Quarter Final before being knocked out by a strong Isle of Purbeck team.

On the way we had memorable victories against Tylney Park and Hayling in the opening rounds but an away fixture at Isle of Purbeck proved to be a step too far.  Although we were well beaten in the end, our team performed admirably and most of the matches were very close indeed but unfortunately not in our favour.  However, everyone enjoyed the experience of playing one of the most challenging courses on the south coast on a beautiful day with glorious views.
